When one thinks of Hill Country, they probably think of rolling hills, incredible vineyards, and breathtaking scenery. However, there is so much more to do and see in this Texas region. One activity growing in popularity over the years is fly fishing, and there’s no better way to give this sport a try than on trips to some of the best spots in Texas. With vacation rentals throughout Fredericksburg and the surrounding area, Cozi Vacation Rentals has the perfect home base for fishing groups of all sizes.
The work you put in before arriving can help ensure your getaway is filled with fun and not stress. Here are three things to do before you arrive at your Hill Country vacation home.
1. Research Where to Go Fishing
Throughout Hill Country, there are several rivers, lakes, and other waterways that are perfect for fly fishing. Some of these spots make for the perfect day trip from your cabin or condo rental. Country Fly Fisher Shop not only has all the supplies you need for your excursion, but they also have free maps showing popular places to fish, including:
- Crabapple Creek
- Blanco State Park, which is stocked with bass, sunfish, rainbow trout, catfish
- Pedernales Falls State Park, which is known for crap, bass, catfish, and sunfish
- Guadalupe River, which is one of the most popular fly fishing spots in Hill Country for trout
A unique spot to go fishing is Shonto Ranch in Kerrville. Roughly a 40-minute drive from Fredericksburg, you can cast your line for everything from bass to perch on this private ranch.

2. Purchase Your Fishing License
Through the Free Fishing in State Parks program, you don’t need a license to fish in Texas state parks. However, you will still need to pay the entry fee to the park. If you choose to fish somewhere besides a state park, you will need to purchase a license, which can be done online through the Texas Parks & Wildlife website. This site is also a great spot to learn about Texas fishing regulations, including bag and length limits.
3. Reserve Your Home Away from Home
A key to successful fly fishing trips to Texas is having a relaxing place to call home, and finding the perfect vacation rental can take a bit of research. At Cozi Vacation Rentals, our inventory includes properties in all sizes and styles, including casitas, condos, cabins, and homes, in Fredericksburg and other Hill Country towns. This range means we have a vacation rental that fits your wants, needs, and budget.
